  • Rome, Italy
  • Naples/Pompeii, Italy

  • Venice
  • Katakolon, Greece
  • Athens, Greece

Norwegian Cruise Line's description of this cruise makes me wish we were leaving today:

Naturally, there are ancient cities, castles, museums and cobblestone streets at every turn. And the boutiques down the street are waiting to be discovered. Experience Europe the way you've always dreamed from your balcony stateroom on the Norwegian Jade this fall. You will drive by landmarks such as Trajan's Column, the Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. If there is one memory you will take home with you, it is of drifting through Venice's canals on a gondola as darkened waters lap your boat and music melts on the air. A scenic drive, of Amalfi coast then on to Pompeii, where you'll visit the Roman resort buried by volcanic ash. Plaster casts mark the positions of the fallen, who were swiftly overcome by the ashes. Have the opportunity to admire some of the most important sites of Athens, including the Acropolis - one of the most photographed and recognizable hills in the entire world. Drive through the Turkish countryside along a hilly road to arrive at the House of Virgin Mary; the site where the Blessed Virgin is reputed to have spent the last years of her life. This trip will be one of a lifetime to remember!

Norwegian Jade has 10 international restaurants. So take your pick, you could dine when and with whom you choose. Add to that the most innovative accommodations on the high seas, and you’ll see there’s no limit to the Freestyle choices for fun and relaxation aboard Norwegian Jade.

Click here for pictures and descriptions of each of the places we will visit. Prices start at US $1,159 per person. If you want more information, contact our travel agency, AA Travel Time at 1-888-505-6997 or send an e-mail to book@aatraveltime.com.

Hope to see you all there!

Legacy Cruise 2008 - An Enormous Success

Cruise2_2Our Legacy Genealogy Cruise to the Baltic Capitals has sadly concluded. :) I must say it was one of our most successful genealogy cruises ever. Nearly 200 Legacy cruisers from all over the world attended, and for most, it was the vacation of a lifetime. What more could one want - genealogy, food, history, DearMYRTLE's classes, food, travel, and food (glad I bought those pants with the expandable waist)?

While at sea DearMYRTLE and the Legacy staff taught classes and everyone learned something. What a treat it was to have DearMYRTLE teach us about evaluating our sources, blogs and podcasts, locating digital records, and so much more. And despite being thousands of miles from home, she was still able to bring us breaking genealogy news. One of the best parts of the instructional time were the after-the-class breakout sessions where we discussed questions and received suggestions for future Legacy development.

Cruise4We visited Denmark, Germany, Russia, Finland, Estonia, Sweden, and England. My personal favorite was our day in Denmark where I visited my Rasmussen ancestors' homeland. Thanks to one of our Danish translators, Poul Erik Sørensen, we located the small village and church where my ancestors attended. Luckily the 912-year-old church was open, and I sat where they once sat. We even got to climb the narrow, spiral staircase of the bell tower. It was an experience I will never forget.

Some of us will never forget this experience for other reasons. First of all, nearly all of the cruisers came down with desynchronosis. After about a week we were better, but upon our arrival back home, we once again were plagued with this terrible syndrome--otherwise known as jet lag.

Cruise3DearMYRTLE will now appreciate every future vacation when her luggage actually arrives. We felt really bad for her when after the 2nd and 3rd days she was still without her luggage. Imagine going the entire trip without her luggage. Well, it never arrived. Hopefully now that she's back home it has caught up to her.

After a few days of recovering from desynchronosis, we're back to work developing Legacy. Thanks to our Support and Sales staff that stayed home we were still able to provide our customers with great service. And thanks again to all our Legacy users, and especially to DearMYRTLE, for making this a wonderful experience. We hope to see many of you next year (September 2009) when we sail the Mediterranean. Details to come....

Ship_2Genealogy Classes at Sea

DearMYRTLE will join the Legacy Family Tree experts to present our best offerings of classes we have ever had. In addition to classes on using Legacy, Myrt has a lineup of classes on genealogy technology to enrich genealogists of all expertise. Here are the scheduled classes:

This class will teach how to easily create a timeline, analyze it for missing clues, automatically embed historical events, and use other tools and software to gain other perspectives of the family’s information.
  • Finding the right records to search. (DearMYRTLE, instructor). • Getting it right the first time: guide to proper data entry methods. Learn the golden rules of data entry including consistency techniques for entering names, dates, and locations.
  • Legacy: Just for Beginners. Learn the very basics of using Legacy for your genealogy. Learn how Legacy can help guide your research. Questions/answers.
  • Citing Sources: Leave a big audit trail. (DearMYRTLE, instructor). DearMYRTLE explores critical thinking processes when citing sources of information that may or may not provide evidence to prove lineage assumptions.
  • Sources made simple, standard, and powerful using Legacy 7's new SourceWriter. Learn how to easily enter your sources using industry standards. No expertise required.
  • Blogs & Podcasts. (DearMYRTLE, instructor). Visit with DearMYRTLE to discover how genealogists may to use these new communication tools for obtaining how-to info, preserving family history, or documenting society events.
  • Reporting w/Legacy: Sharing Info Electronically. Learn how to create, share, and even publish your information via email, CD/DVD, and the Internet.
  • Picturing your Legacy: a guide to using and organizing photos. Learn the “before-digitizing-your-pictures” rules, the ins/outs to using pictures in Legacy, and organizing your digital photo collections.
  • Powerful searching and tagging techniques. Learn how to quickly and easily find and retrieve anything in your family file.
  • Finding digital items in the Family History Library Catalog (DearMYRTLE, instructor). You’ve read about plans to scan & index nearly 3 million rolls of microfilm from the Family History Library, including records from over 80 countries throughout the world. DearMYRTLE explains how to access digital & microfilm records using the online FHLCatalog.
  • Potpourri - Q/A with the Legacy developers. This is your chance to “interrogate” the Legacy development team.

Legacy Cruise to Hawaii - an enormous success

We've just returned from our 4th annual Legacy Genealogy Cruise - a 12-day genealogy vacation to Hawaii. Most of us brought back souvenirs, hundreds of digital pictures, new genealogy and Legacy information, and a few extra pounds.

We saw volcanoes, fresh lava, waterfalls, rain, rainbows, surfers, and sea turtles. We rode trains, flew in float planes, and hiked rainforests. In the evenings we experienced Broadway-style shows, comedy acts, magic shows, and midnight buffets.

Legacy classes featured twelve hours of interactive, personal instruction; lots of door prizes; technology tips from Dick Eastman, a 48-page syllabus; and the opportunity to exchange suggestions and feedback personally with the developers of Legacy. Students enjoyed our announcement that all would receive Legacy v7 for free when it is released.

Cruisers had such a good time that many already signed up for next year's cruise to the Baltic Capitals. In fact, next year's cruise is filling up faster than any of our previous genealogy cruises. Our 5th annual Legacy Genealogy Cruise features a 12 day European cruise departing from London, England - July 16-28, 2008. We hope to have several different tracks of genealogy instruction from Legacy instructors and other well-known speakers. You will discover the lands of kings and tsars all the way up to the Vikings.  An area rich in folklore and fairy tales, you'll be transported back to the time of the original oceangoing explorers.  Naturally, there are ancient cities, castles, museums and cobblestone streets at every turn. But, to the trained eye, that patisserie on the corner is to die for. And the boutiques down the street are waiting to be discovered.
